Veneers are like thin porcelain facings that fit over the front surface of the teeth; similar to an artificial nail over a fingernail. It looks and feels natural and is ideal to repair chipped, cracked or worn teeth. Veneers can also be used to close spaces between teeth, correct minor crowding concerns or mask severely stained teeth.
The procedure is relatively straight-forward. The amount of tooth structure removed depends on the original condition of the teeth, in some instances, little or no tooth structure is removed. Once the tooth is prepared, an impression is taken and a tooth colored temporary placed on the tooth. About a week later you return to the office for the porcelain veneer. Your veneer is bonding to your tooth with a resin material that adds strength and fills any small voids between the tooth and porcelain. You can now eat, drink, talk and most importantly smile normally. Your new teeth will feel like a normal tooth, and more importantly perhaps, look like a natural tooth. It’s where artistry meets dentistry, we design it to reflect light like your adjacent teeth and match any color variations that occur normally, even making it more translucent at the edge.
LUMINEERS® by Cerinate® are one of our thinnest porcelain veneers and they generally don’t require the removal of any tooth structure. Dr. Sushma Bajaj and the team will be happy to discuss whether or not they are appropriate for your given situation. With proper care, porcelain veneers will brighten your smile for well over a decade. Refraining from using your veneers as tools to open and cut things will prolong their life. You look after your veneered tooth as you would your natural teeth with proper brushing and flossing and regular hygiene visits and dental check-ups.
